Kohtla-Jarve Tammiku Basic School is one of the youngest schools in the town. It started its work in 1991. There are about 536 pupils aged 7-15 studying here. 53 well-qualified teachers work here.

15 percent of the students possess special educational needs.

The school staff includes a school psychologist, 2 social workers, a speech therapist and a support teacher. A specially organised commission promotes a healthy lifestyle at our school.

There are 29 classes at our school. There are also all necessary facilities for successful studying: convenient labs, an assembly hall, two well-equipped computer rooms, a modern I.T. room, two gyms, a dining-hall, a library, a playing field and a swimming-pool.  Our school is famous for its traditions, celebrations, talented students, their parents and teachers.

Kohtla-Jarve is located in a frontier district, 50 kilometers from the Estonian-Russian border.

Our region is multicultural: 30 per cent of Estonians, 70 per cent of Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians and other nationalities. The main objectives of our school are the high-quality education for students, creating of a friendly learning atmosphere, ensuring the safety of each child.

Our school has developed the friendly cooperation with other Estonian schools as well as the schools from Germany, Italy , Poland,  Holland, Denmark, Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, the UK, Portugal, Spain, France, Latvia and Lithuania.  We also work in the frames of different projects and arrange international students’ exchanges.  Our school has recently participated in Comenius project “Migration and Integration”  (2009-2011) , Comenius project “Crossing bridges from past to present”(2013-2015 ), and the international NordPlus Junior project “From my the very first euro cent” (2015-2016). Our school takes part in other educational, integrational, virtual and charity projects.
